total mileage: 897 mi
Thank you for visiting pennyamile.net. My name is Keith Nixon and I started Penny a Mile in order to raise funds and provide financial support for critically ill children in the Greater Pittsburgh area. I will raise these funds by training for and running the Dayton, OH Marathon on September 18, 2010. This is a continuation of my previous fund raising efforts beginning with successfully running the Pittsburgh Marathon on May 2, 2010. I am asking that anybody interested in participating in this worthy project to pledge a minimum 1 cent per mile for completion of the marathon which is 26.2 miles. (Donations of greater than 1 cent per mile are obviously welcome.)
All proceeds from this undertaking will be donated to Drew and Trent Grady of Upper St. Clair, PA. Drew and Trent, 6 and 3 years respectively, were both born with Late Infantile Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis, better known as Batten’s disease, a progressively degenerative nervous system disorder that is, in many instances, fatal before the child reaches their teens. There are no known cures. The funds raised will provide the Grady family with the medical supplies and various treatments necessary for Drew and Trent’s ongoing care.

All contributions will be deposited into a dedicated, interest bearing account at PNC Bank at Donaldson’s Crossroads in McMurray, PA where the Grady children are the sole beneficiaries. Every penny donated to this cause will go directly to providing medical care for Drew and Trent. All supplies and expenses incurred for this project are being underwritten and volunteered by various individuals and organizations for which I am very grateful.
I originally saw the Grady’s story at the beginning of November, 2009 on a local news broadcast and was inspired to do whatever I could to help this family in need. I sincerely hope you also will be inspired to help and contribute whatever you can.
Please tell your friends, relatives, coworkers, neighbors and everybody you know about this website and what we’re trying to do for these two boys. Hopefully many will find it in their hearts to help out in any way they can.
From the beginning of this concept, I wanted to create something that was going to make a meaningful difference to someone in need and make it easy for anybody and everybody to participate. I believe pennyamile.net accomplishes these goals.
Thank you very much for your consideration and support.
